Workforce Development

People Working Together (PWT) in partnership with the Sacramento-Sierra Building and Construction Trades Council (SSBCTC) offers services to targeted communities to prepare them for the SSBCTC Apprenticeship Program.

PWT assists people from low-income communities to access union construction apprenticeships, which are pathways to safe, secure careers. We strive to serve justice involved individuals, residents of public housing, and the under-employed. PWT serves as a link between community organizations that assist these communities and the building trades industry.

PWT seeks to help the building trade unions become richer, more diverse institutions by ensuring that career opportunities are available to people from low-income communities. PWT not only assists candidates to access these career opportunities, but also to develop their voices and leadership potential so that they can become peer mentors and leaders in the building trades and in their communities.

PWT offers a readiness program focused on the Multi-Craft Core Curriculum (MC3). Upon completion of the PWT program the participant will be knowledgeable in the nine areas of focus related to the MC3

The nine areas of focus in the MC3:

  • Construction Industry Orientation

  • Tools and Materials

  • Construction Health and Safety (including OSHA 10 and CPR)

  • Blueprint Reading

  • Basic Math for Construction

  • Heritage of the American Worker

  • Diversity in the Construction Industry

  • Green Construction

  • Financial Literacy
